Resume and Portfolio Development
The coaching goal is to provide you with the basics of
how to put a resume together. The most current resume styles will be covered as
well as what a recruiter looks for in a resume. We will discuss red flags that
should be avoided and helpful strategies that will enhance your chances of
getting an interview. Your resume is your calling card. Your resume often
determines a company's first impression of you. We can help you create the right impression that will
get you invited in for that first interview.
Developing Your Contact Network
Networking is the #1 job search technique. Studies have shown
that 75% of new jobs are found through the unpublished or informal
job market, while only 25% are found in the published job market.
The newspaper is also where you will find your greatest competition.
We will share how to tap into the unpublished job market, how to
create a useful, well-functioning network and how to make the informal
job market work for you. We will show you how to use Business Intelligence
Services to identify Executive Lists that you can target for growing your
contact network.Identifying Potential Organization Targets
Your job search will go a lot faster and smoother if
you spend time up front planning your job search strategy. In order to find what
you are looking for you need to know what it is. We will show you how to use
Business Intelligence Services to identify your target market - location,
industry and type of organization, and size of organization. Once you have
identified a list of actual target organizations, your job search gets more
focused. Once your targets have been identified,
you efforts get more payback in networking and insider knowledge. You
begin to uncover the hidden job market.Interviewing Skills
Often it is not the best or most qualified candidate
who gets the job, but the one who interviews best. We can show you different
styles of interviewing. We prepare you for the most common interview questions.
We show you how to
handle the difficult questions. We identify what areas to stay away from
in an interview and how to respond to an illegal question. We will
show you how to prepare for the interview. Finally, we will discuss salary
and contract negotiations and how to negotiate benefits.
Selling Skills
Obtaining your next career opportunity involves many of the same
steps as closing a sale. You must have product knowledge (i.e. know
your features and benefits). You have to control the customer relationship
(i.e. planning, gaining & qualifying leads) and setting appointments.
When you get in front of your prospective employer you will need
to gain their trust in order to identify their needs, problems and
challenges. Once you know their need-payoffs (hot buttons), you have
to clearly show them which of your talents can meet their specific needs and
solve their problems. In summary, you establish your value and position yourself
as their solution. Our career coaches show you how to manage your interview
using a successful sales presentation
as the road map.
Developing Your Career "Theme Statements"
Your career "Theme Statements" create a clear and vivid picture
of who you are and what you have to offer. Your theme statements serve
as an essential tool in your job search process. Any request to "Tell
me about yourself" provides you with a great opportunity to describe
yourself as a professional and display your career theme statements.
It offers the opportunity to express your expertise and strengths,
and to position your capabilities in the mind of the listener. It
also gives you an opportunity to describe not only what you can do,
but what you are looking for. You can use your career theme statements
throughout your job search, from networking meetings and interviews
to cover letters and your resume.
Persuasive Correspondence
Letter writing becomes a tool of great importance during your
job search. You must learn how to concisely sell yourself in your cover letters
and your thank you letters. You want your readers to move you forward in
their hiring process. We will show you how to create cover letters that increase your interview
chances. We show you how to write letters asking for an informational or networking meeting
and thank you letters. E-mail networking
is also discussed. Learn how to write letters that set you apart
from the crowd.
Stress Management
Did you know the number one cause of stress is change? Chances
are that if you are going through a job change or even anticipating
one you are experiencing stress in your life. In this coaching session we show
you how to turn Change into Challenge by identifying the changes that are within
your control as opposed to those that are not. We focus on things you can
control. This coaching defines stress, both
the positive kind that energizes and the negative that depletes. Personalities
(i.e. Type A) and attitudes (i.e. perfectionism) that are particularly
susceptible to stress are identified. Participants are then given
a series of stress evaluations to measure their levels of stress on
several dimensions-- physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and relational.
Learn to make your job search much easier by positively
managing the stress in your life.
Assertiveness
In order to market yourself effectively you need to
portray an image of confidence and self-assurance. This training is designed to
build your assertiveness by enabling participants to explore ways of going
against the conditioning we have received to be passive and to stifle our
emotions. Skills are taught for developing healthier relationships
and lifestyles based on considerate, honest expression. Participants
learn how to say ''no'' to what they don't want and ''yes'' to what
they do, and how to stand up for their rights without stepping on
others. The negative effects of aggression are also discussed. Assertiveness
is demonstrated as a responsible alternative to explosions of stored
resentment. Through this coaching participants are helped to become
more inner-directed, and thus more independent and resourceful.
Self-Esteem
This coaching topic addresses a foundation which underlies most success
and happiness--how people feel about themselves. Participants will
be surveyed to determine their current level of self-esteem. Then
blocks and barriers will be identified--what they don't like about
themselves. The myth of selfishness will be challenged and responsible
self-care legitimized, taught and encouraged. Participants will learn
to develop a gentle, compassionate inner voice to assist the inner
critic with moving the individual toward greater self-acceptance and
growth.
Time Management
Sometimes during a job search we find it is difficult
to use our time wisely, to become focused and productive. We explore strategies
for gaining greater control and increasing our job search results as well as our
productivity in other areas of our lives. We explore how to integrate our
true priorities into our daily routines. Identify how you procrastinate. Understand your personal strengths
and weaknesses related to schedules and deadlines. Get organized
and set your priorities for the month, the week, and each day. Use
your calendar to budget your days better and create more quality time
for the things that really matter. Bring a new sense of orderliness
into your life. Recognize that each person has different needs around
time.
Purpose- ''Is that all there is''?
This training focuses on the definition and
importance of purpose in our lives. Purpose differs from our external roles and
society's expectations. It comes from within. It is derived from our yearning to
''make a difference'' in the world, to contribute the best of our unique
talents. It gives meaning and direction to our lives. Stress is created when we
get out of alignment with our purpose. Participants
will be given exercises to discover their purpose. Increased productivity
and fulfillment flow naturally for people who creatively implement
their special gifts at work and at home. Suggestions will be provided
to enable participants to stop reacting to a series of accidents and
start living ''on purpose''.
